SPRING 2016 SCHEDULE
MARCH – JUNE 2016

*All Classes will now begin at 6:30 pm. But, no worries, they still last for 2-2 ½ hours. You will be on your way earlier; maybe you can stop at the grocery store on your way home to buy ingredients for your new recipes ;)…
An (R) denotes repeat classes…after the class title. These are our most popular classes and usually have waiting lists, so we have made them available for those who may have missed out previously.

  • Easter Brunch Favorites - Learn how to prepare the perfect Mimosa, create alusciousasparagus quiche, assemble acrisp citrus and spinach salad, and stir up some easy lemon curd tarts. Then you can eat all the chocolate the Easter bunny brought without feeling guilty ;).
    ~Tuesday, March 22nd or ~Wednesday, March 23rd
  • Chinese Take-out (R) - We will cook up some tangy and tasty Kung Pao Chicken, stir up some vegetable fried rice, and you will roll up your own eggrolls. Oh, and we will work on our chopstick skills… just because!

  • Spring Salads - We are already into the second official week of spring! So, we will make a simple, yet, outstanding vinaigrette for a vibrant mixed green salad, a crisp, crunchy apple-cabbage slaw, and create a grilled Caesar salad with the crunchy croutons and creamy dressing.

  • Spring Break Pizza Workshop (R) - Staying in town this Break? Sign up for our family friendly hands-on Class! We will make a sensational pizza dough, blend up 2 different pizza sauces, grate up some cheeses and prepare a variety of toppings. You’ll put your own glorious creation in the oven and enjoy the cheesy results!!

  • Gluten Free and Dairy Free - Sometimes the best things in life are free…of gluten and dairy ;). If those foods have got you tied up in knots, we have some recipes that can make you feel good again! We will be making,Immunity Boost Juice (a great blended beverage to soothe and improve the behavior of your belly), the ever so trendy (yet ancient!) Bone Broth, delicious Quinoa Avocado and Sprout salad, and Almond Butter Chocolate Chip Energy Bites. Good and good for you…

  • Changing Up Chicken (R) - Three different takes on cooking up skinless-boneless chicken breasts. Similar techniques but 3 different flavors! Scallopini (mushrooms and wine sauce), Piccata (lemon caper sauce) and Maple Pecan (maple glaze with toasted pecans). They cook up faster and easier than you would think; dinner can be ready in a jiffy!

  • Mexican Street Food - We’ll be making some cooked and fresh salsas, from mild to fiery, then grilling carne asada and slow roastingcarnitas for tacos. So, yes, it will be Taco Tuesday ;) (Briefest description but the class I can hardly wait for!!!- Joan)

  • Pasties (R) - RA classic and perennial UP favorite! You’ll be hands on in this class. We will make the easiest most forgiving dough and fill it to the brim with the traditional goodies! It’s the original hand pie, but savory and delicious!

  • Grilling - Thick, juicy Steak, fire-roasted Vegetables, Garlic Bread, and Caramelized Fruit for dessert, all on the grill! Essential tips and techniques just in time for Memorial Day!

  • Tuscan Picnic - Tasty make and take foods to make your picnic feel like a day in the Italian countryside! We’ll prepare,herbed mozzarella with olives, a perfect herb and oil potato salad, Tuscan grilled chicken, and a finish with a simply delicious olive oil cake.

  • Sushi (R) - Hands-on rolling your own sushi rolls. We’ll make the rice and put together fresh and delightful sushi and nigiri. Pickled ginger and wasabi will be there too!

  • Spanish Tapas - Small plate appetizers, perfect for summer gatherings… Mini roasted tomato and pine nut pizzas, chorizo empanadas, and traditional Spanish tortilla, oh, and a skewer or two of cheeses and olives… Just the right things to go with your sunny or sunset cocktails!

  • Summer Lovin’ Desserts - We’ll be putting together Key Lime Pie with Coconut Crust, and making the fixins’ for S’mores! (Homemade Marshmallows and Baked Graham Crackers). Let’s get Summer started!!

Class Information

Our classes are $45 per attendee, prepaid to hold your spot, and held in the Essence on Main kitchen after regular business hours. Please come to the back door in the alley (4 S. Main)!
**Classes begin at 6:30 pm **(new start time!) and run 2 to 2 ½ hours. You will receive a copy of the recipes and have a generous sampling of the foods prepared, so come hungry.

*See a class that you would love, but the date doesn’t work for you? Need a date night or a girl’s night out? You can plan a private class for 6-10 people and pick a menu and date that works for you and your group. All classes are scheduled Monday-Wednesday. (Thursday and Friday evening classes are at a premium rate of $60 per person and available on a limited basis). Give us a call and we can discuss the options!

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation policy: please note that cancellations must 48 hours prior to the scheduled class to receive a refund or transfer to another class (subject to availability). A cancellation less than 48 hours prior to class is non-refundable; please try to send someone in your place.Essence on Main reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment, chef illness, or inclement weather. In the event of our cancellation, we will notify you as soon as possible and provide a refund or class credit, whichever suits you best.
